ABOUT
THE NAVY SEALS

Defined by a proud heritage rooted in World War II, the Navy SEALs are a model of versatility, executing unconventional warfare, special reconnaissance, and counterterrorism missions. Their lineage descends from Naval Combat Demolition Units, maritime commando units specially organized in 1942 for the Allied invasion of Normandy. A persistent need for such unique capabilities transformed Naval Combat Demolition Units of Normandy into the Underwater Demolition Teams. Ultimately, as the need for unconventional warfare intensified, U.S. military leaders forged ahead with the creation of naval fighting units with the capability to strike from Sea, Air, and Land, giving rise to the modern-day Navy.
